In the past five years the US pop band Backstreet Boys, who were hugely successful in the Nineties, have lost a member and released two very underwhelming albums.
But this week the boys were definitely back with a vengeance as they performed to an almost sold out crowd at the 02 Arena.
The group, which now consists of Nick Carter, Brian Littrel, AJ McLean and Howie Dorough, had the audience in the palm of their hands as they belted out their older hits like Quit Playing Games, Everybody (Backstreet’s Back) and I’ll Never Break Your Heart as well as showcasing some of their new material.

And while the foursome's dance routines aren’t quite as slick as they used to be, they demonstrated that they still know how to bust a move as they cavorted around the stage with a group of scantily clad female dancers throughout the show.
The highlight of the night was a rousing rendition of I Want It That Way, their first UK number one, and the thrilled crowd of mostly teenage girls and twenty-something women almost drowned the group out as they sang the lyrics back to them word for word.
The almost two-hour long show was interjected with a number of videos featuring the boys being cleverly inserted into films like The Matrix, 2 Fast 2 Furious, Enchanted and Fight Club and it was clear that they had lapped the opportunity to be movie stars (although I wouldn’t give up the day job!).
The group, who are now mostly in their 30’s, are clearly moving into a more adult sound but judging from the lukewarm reaction to their new songs, the fans clearly prefer there older material.
The T-Pain produced She’s A Dream and Bye Bye Love didn’t go down so well but This Is Us and upcoming single Bigger look sure to be new hits for the Americans.
As they ended the show with the dance-pop track Straight To The Heart it was obvious that the Backstreet Boys had found their way back into the hearts of their old fans and perhaps had never left.
